Important Yorkshire Terrier Grooming Information By Susan Bailey

Yorkshire Terriers make wonderful pets. They are small and so they are easy to pick up and get around, but they also make great watchdogs. They are obviously quite fragile and therefore are not the best protectors, but they are always alert and will notify you if there is any movement or noises that you may not be able to hear yourself. They truly make wonderful pets, even if there are children in the home.

They should be trained, just as with any other type of dog, but as long as you give them proper obedience training when they are young they will make not only an ideal pet but also a great companion. Just keep in mind that Yorkshire Terrier grooming is often considered as being a downfall to this breed, as they require a great deal more care and maintenance. As long as you are going to be willing and able to make time for this however, you should have no problems.

Before you begin your Yorkshire Terrier grooming, it is important to know that they are a single coated breed. This means that they do not have an undercoat. Unlike most other breeds of dog, their coats are very similar to human hair. This does not mean that you should use human shampoo on your dog's hair however, because dog's have different chemical balances than humans and so using this type of shampoo on them can result in dry and flaky skin.

Bathing is also a very important part of Yorkshire Terrier grooming, and it is important that you bathe them regularly, at least one to two times a week. This will keep dirt and grime out of their hair, as well as keep it from getting matted and tangled. There are many good dog shampoos on the market to choose from, and remember to be careful when washing around the dog's eyes because you do not want to get soap or water in them.

One way to cut down on daily grooming time is to maintain a Yorkshire Terrier puppy cut on your pet. The Yorkshire Terrier grooming process may seem a bit complicated and may take a bit more time than other dog grooming, but it is really all worth it to have such a delightful pet as the Yorkie. They are adorable and loving and extremely loyal. They are also very active and alert so they are always a lot of fun and love to get out and go for walks.

With proper Yorkshire Terrier grooming you can keep your Yorkie looking and feeling at their very best and this is particularly important for their confidence and self esteem. Many pet owners are not aware that by grooming your pet you are helping boost their confidence, and in turn this will affect the way they feel about themselves and also the way they act towards others. If you ever need help or advice on grooming your Yorkie you can contact your veterinarian and ask them for more information on this, and of course you can also do your own research as well.

Susan Bailey has experience with Yorkshire Terriers and has had to groom them before. Brushing, bathing, tooth cleaning and nail clipping are the most important parts of any Yorkshire Terrier grooming process. If you need to get Yorkshire Terrier grooming supplies, you should head to your local pet store where you should be able to find at least a decent selection.
